Formation Evaluation
Course Duration:
5 Working Days
Course Overview:
This comprehensive advanced course is designed to provide solid understanding of the most commonly used
open-hole logs and Core analysis techniques. Participants will gain the foundation, experience and techniques
to read and interpret each log for evaluating reservoir parameters such as lithology, porosity and saturation. Participants will learn how to analyze a log suite and come up with interpretation and suggestions through
extensive exercises and team work.
Course Objective:
Core analysis techniques and significance of measured properties, Introduction to logging and geologic understanding through well logs, Drill Stem testing fundamentals, Objectives and principles of production logging and formation testing, Advanced log analysis techniques for complex reservoirs, Shale gas analysis techniques.
Course Content:
- Determination of reservoir properties using core analysis.
- Petrophysical aspects of formation evaluation.
- Basic geologic logging: Sources of data and significance.
- Rock mineralogy and log responses.
- Carbonate reservoir properties.
- Operation and tools used in Drill stem testing.
- Production logging.
- Wire-line formation testing.
- Advanced log analysis techniques.
- Dip meter interpretation.
- Drilling, completion and work-over aspects of formation evaluation.
